This unique Award, established from a bequest to the ASP by astronomer Dorothea Klumpke-Roberts (1861-1942), recognizes outstanding contributions to the public understanding and appreciation of astronomy.

The Maria and Eric Muhlmann Award

The Maria and Eric Muhlmann Award of the ASP is given annually for recent significant observational results made possible by innovative advances in astronomical instrumentation, software, or observational infrastructure. The Award will be made to the scientist(s) who acquired the results, to the builder of the instrument/software (if a different individual), or to both as appropriate. Individuals as well as small teams of individuals are eligible. The Award will be granted for significant advances in any areas of astronomy, without restriction to wavelength or space/ground-based observations.

The Thomas J. Brennan Award

The Thomas Brennan Award, founded by astronomy enthusiasts Terry and Cindy Brennan in memory of Terry's father, recognizes exceptional achievement related to the teaching of astronomy at the high school level, whether made by an active teacher or by someone whose work has had a substantial impact on high school astronomy teaching.

The Robert J. Trumpler Award

The Robert J. Trumpler Award of the ASP is given each year to a recent recipient of the PhD degree in North America whose research is considered unusually important to astronomy.

The Las Cumbres Amateur Outreach Award, established by Wayne Rosing and Dorothy Largay, seeks to honor outstanding educational outreach by an amateur astronomer to K-12 children and the interested lay public.
