The Gairdner Foundation


The Gairdner Foundation was created in 1957 by Mr. James Arthur Gairdner, to recognize and reward the achievements of medical researchers whose work contributes significantly to improving the quality of human life.

The purpose of these awards is the recognition of individuals whose work or contribution constitutes tangible achievement in the field of medical science.

The International Award

The International Award is given to individuals from a diversity of fields for outstanding discoveries or contributions to medical science.
