ADAMS, RICHARD E.W.

Ashbel Smith Professor of Anthropology at the University of Texas at San Antonio's College of Social and Behavioral Sciences.

Research interests : Archaeology, method and theory, Mesoamerican prehistory, South American prehistory, Old World prehistory..

Adams excavated many Mayan lowland sites in Mesoamerica. He has numerous reports in books concerning Mayan civilization and the rise of Mayan civilization, as well as ceramics.

Adams' single most important technical contribution to the field involved pioneering the use of aerial synthetic aperture radar surveys to locate archaeological sites hidden in the jungle, a technique which also has important applications in geology and land-use planning.
