His main interests are in analysis with application to physics. He worked on local smoothing for dispersive equations, on the connection between finite dimensional dynamical systems and the dynamics of nonlinear dissipative partial differential equations, on existence and regularity of solutions to Euler and Navier-Stokes systems and of active scalar equations, and on subjects connected with scaling exponents in turbulence, using in the particular the background flow method for estimating dissipation in turbulent flows.
