Inspired by Tom Liggett at UCLA, he studied stochastic spatial models. After meeting Simon Levin at Cornell, he began to explore their applications to ecology. More recently he has worked with Chip Aquadro and other biologists on campus studying the evolution of genes and molecular markers.
