M. Konsevich's work is concentrated on mathematical aspects of theoretical physics, especially of string theory and topological quantum field theory. His works on deformation theory and on operands give new relations between universal algebra, noncommuntative geometry, the topology of manifolds and motives.

He was awarded the Fields Medal in 1998.
