J.T. Oden's current research involves development, analysis, and implementation of new adaptive-control strategies in computational mechanics and draws from several disciplines, including the theory of partial differential equations, numerical analysis, sparse matrix methods, iterative methods, a priori and a posteriori error estimations, data structures, parallel computing, continuum mechanics and acoustics.
Application areas of special interest are micromechanics of composite materials, computational fluid dynamics, the numerical analysis of partial differential equations, computational structural acoustics, theories and numerical solutions of problems of contact and friction in solid mechanics.
